You know the idiom "making a 180"? Well, these words are absolutely true when it comes to me and Bucky Barnes. As those of you who follow my journal already know, Steve Rogers' best friend didn't exactly catch my attention when I saw "The First Avenger" for the first time. That changed (a bit) when my local TV station aired "The Winter Soldier" in Autumn 2016. Suddenly, I was intrigued by the character, which got more fueled on by a whole array of "Stucky" fanfiction over on AO3 (and has expanded in such delicious territories as Winterhawk and my OT3 there, Bucky/Clint/Natasha). And to end on a rather shallow note, Sebastian Stan is, beneath all the assassin exterior from movie No. 2 on, a real cinnamon roll ;) This batch was made for Round 101 over at character20n20 Enjoy!

Now let's talk about Bucky! I had a slightly similar reaction as you - I liked Bucky well enough in CA TFA, but nothing super sparked my interest despite seeing some people on sites like tumblr being gaga for Bucky/Stucky. Then I saw Winter Soldier and became a lot more interested in Bucky, as well as being open to the idea of Stucky. [though at this point, it was just "well I don't dislike the idea, if it comes up in a fanfiction I'm not going to stop reading because of it. *I was still considering Steggy my Marvel otp then]

But it wasn't until Civil War that something just clicked for me... I saw just how much Steve truly loves Bucky - and that's not fangirl shit, the man broke so many laws, went against people he's been working closely with for years, people he also cares about - for this man that is more important than ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING GOD DAMN IT! James "Bucky" Buchanan Barnes is the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO STEVE AND I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE!

So yeah, I've been hardcore on the Bucky train since TWS, and Stucky since Civil War!

Oh, we're so alike! XD One of my first OTPs in the whole MCU were Steve/Peggy as well, and like you, I didn't mind reading Stucky fanfiction back in the day (I think I've always been a multi-shipper ;) ) And yeah, Civil War is, basically, a manifestation of Steve's unconditional love for Bucky - I mean, he literally drops the shield for him (though they want us to believe it's because of Tony's words) to get him someplace safe. If that's not for love, what then? And Team Cap is good at catching those vibes, if Sam and Clint's words during the last stretch of the airport fight are anything to go by. Can't wait where they take this all in "Infinity War".
