Despite the fact that he's playing villains and bad guys most of the time, Sean has taken up residence on my favorite actors list. But no matter what intentions his character has, Sean always gives 100% and more. This batch was made for Round 71 of [livejournal.com profile] guys20in20. Enjoy!

Artist's Choice - Favorite roles:

Sean has played so many wonderful characters in his long career that I could probably fill more than one table with my favorites alone.

01 - Odysseus (Troy): one of the few "good" parts in Sean's filmography. Though his part is a bit smaller than others in the movie, Odysseus is, nonetheless, one of the crucial ones. Not only is he the one that finally comes up with the idea of sending the wooden horse, he also narrates some scenes, and most of all, different to others, he's thinking a bigger picture. While Achilles, Agamemmnon or Agamemmnon's brother just have their own glory in mind, Odysseus tries to keep the large armies united and the soldiers focused.

02 - Boromir (Lord of the Rings): Oh, Boromir. One of those characters you want to hug in the one and slap in the next second. The eldest son of Denethor, representing the city of Gondor, is a proud man, and it is this pride, combined with a wrong idea about the true power of the ring, that shall lead to his end. And no matter how many times I see the first movie, I still get tears in my eyes when Boromir draws his last breath.

03 - Richard, Earl of Fenton (Scarlett): pretty much the first role I ever saw of Sean. And of course, he plays a bad guy. Richard Fenton comes into the picture when Scarlett leaves the USA for Ireland. They end up in a relationship - which takes a very bad turn when Richard shows his true face. As with so many of the bad boys Sean played so far, Richard doesn't see the end of the mini-series, but until his early demise, Sean does a wonderful job of portraying this very evil man.

04 - Alec Trevelyan/006 (James Bond - Goldeneye): Usually, when I watch a Bond movie, I'm on James' side, hoping that whoever is the main villain of the movie, will find his end in an interesting way. Not here. When the movie starts, we see Alec and James working side by side. The mission goes terribly wrong, and James spends the next years with quite some guilt in the back of his mind. Then, all of a sudden, everything changes, and events reveal that Alec is still alive and kicking. Though now, he shows his true face, and all the wrath about the bad treatment of his parents after WWII comes to the front, fueling his fight against the world, and James. Among all the Bond villains, Alec is, by far, my favorite, and while it's mostly Sean's fault, it's also because of Alec's backstory of being the kid of "Linzer Kosaken" (who really existed).

05 - Count Alexej Vronski (Anna Karenina): Sean has, throughout his career, a long line of characters who are set in a different period of time. One of his best roles in that line is Vronski, lover of the main character Anna Karenina. From his very first appearance on, it's easy to understand why Anna falls for him - he's charming, devastatingly handsome (especially in uniform!), and for the better part of the movie, he treats Anna way better than her husband. And by the end of the movie, when Anna chooses a dramatic exit from life, his desperation and grief are more than palpable.

Honorable mentions:
Richard Sharpe (Sharpe series)
Sean Miller (Patriot Games)
Captain Rich (Flightplan)
Patrick Koster (Don't Say A Word)
Ian Howe (National Treasure)
and some more

These are great. Love Close crop, Lord Fenton and alt9 especially.

Alec is by far my favorite Bond villain too. And the one I ship with Bond most lol.

thank you!

I so want Sean being cast again in a Bond movie, if only to see him battling Daniel XD And I've watched some of the later Bond movies (most of the other Brosnan ones and the first two Craig ones) - gotta say none of the villains gets even close to Sean's performance.

thank you!

Well, he does not die in *every* movie, but there's quite a list (25 on-screen deaths so far XD), but that's the fate of being cast as the villain ;)

I'm always looking for the "beauty" shots, as I label them, where the subject really looks fine (unless the theme asks for something different)

Perfect contrast in that Boromir icon! I love the balance of light and dark in that piece! The blues in Solid Background and Far Away are wonderful, too! ;D

Was the contrast already present in the original photos? I swear I love celeb images. So much cleaner and easier to work with cuz they already have great lighting! :P

yep, it was! And I had the luck to find one in good resolution, so it's even more easier to work with! But this one is definitely an all-time favorite of mine, in every aspect.

LOL our favorite alien is gonna be in good company ;) Though I guess he's still a bit away from the 25+ on-screen-deaths of Sean.

Anyway, thank you!! Yeah, Boromir is definitely one of the parts you can link with Sean, though I can say, whatever he does, Sean gives an distinctive edge to almost every part he plays, as long as the script gives him something to work with. So all the parts I listed in the AC and under honorable mentions, they all are worth watching. You won't be disappointed, trust me.
