Call me a lemming, but since half (or more) of my flist is already doing it, I thought I should join in too.

Ask Me Anything (goes both general and writing)

and as little incentive to ask, here's a bonus Bomer:

Why White Collar? (both general and writing!)

good question!

General: I actually wasn't looking for a new show back then, but (a) I got the DVD's for Season 1 and 2 and (b) images of Matt (or better Neal) popped up on Fanpop more and more, and well, I got curious. Watched the two boxes in record time, and the reruns on a local TV station, too. What got me hooked is not just Matt's good looks, but also the bromance between Peter and Neal. Sure, they have their problems, and there are several occasions where I would love to punch the one or the other, but in the end, they do what they do best.

If you want to read more about my love for White Collar:

Writing: that just happened. I have dabbled in different fandoms before (mainly Criminal Minds and Supernatural), but White Collar is definitely my favorite fandom to write for. And I've never ever wrote anything remotely close to my two WCRBB entries before. I still marvel on how I pulled that one off, but somehow I did it. So expect a lot more stories of our favorite duo popping up here.

how about you??

I hadn't seen your previous post. Nice write up! :)

What drew me to the show are first and foremost the characters. They're all well-rounded and complex in their own rights, and not your typical TV characters. Peter/El ♥♥ and just Peter ♥♥. But all the characters, really, they're all interesting and bring their own little something to the ensemble.
But also, the quality of the writing, the wit of the dialogues. That was a very enjoyable show to watch (and rewatch). Also New York City, and the classy directing style. It's really not your usual TV show.
Also like you said, it's mostly non violent. Cases very rarely involve dead bodies. (ironically the rare deaths are almost all very shocking. Kate, Ellen, Siegel, even the bad guys...).

Fanfics, I think because I started reading some. Then I had an idea that popped into my head, and I was encourage to give it a try. And gradually, I discovered the power and fun of exploring the characters further, write the missing scenes I wished were in the show... And now I'm giving them a future...
Oh wait I realize that doesn't really answer the question "why". Well, because I love the characters and love getting in their head. It's a way to keep the show going in between episodes - and after the end.

Is there a particular story idea that you really, really want to write?

I've read some A/B/O stories both in the WC and the SPN fandom, and I'm tempted to give it a try, but first of all I have to research more on that topic before I even can come up with an idea. Same goes by the way for Mpreg storylines.

As for story ideas in general, I hardly leave the house without a pen and a pad. You never know when a possible idea crosses your path, or an already exisiting thought takes on a more solid form, so I always have them two with me. Right now, my "book of ideas" consists of three pads, full with ideas for several fandoms, with the majority in White Collar.

for White Collar:

As some of you might already have noticed, I love AUs. For me, they are an endless road of possibilities. Therefore, I have the very general idea of sending the boys + entourage to the 1940's, in a setting similar to the good old detective novels and the film noir of that time (like "The Maltese Falcon"). But so far, it's just an idea.

Another idea that I'm toying around in my head is a Wild West setting, which got a heavy spark recently with your artwork "Legends of the West". I'm collecting thoughts actually, so that might or might not be the next big thing after the WCBB.

What is the most difficult think you find about writing?

Finding the right way into the story. In more than one case, I spent the better part of writing the whole story at the prologue. There's always a little battle in me between jumping right into the action, so to speak, and a slower approach. Depending on what kind of story I'm writing, I choose one way or the other. And sometimes I delete the whole prologue and start anew, this time from a different angle (has happened with "The Spy Who Loved Me". The first version of the teaser was way closer to one scene from "Out of the Box" than what you got to read in the end.)

Another thing that sometimes has me struggling is finding the right voice for the characters. I try to keep them as close to what we see on the show as possible, and that is sometimes a very difficult task. And if the story I write is set in a different timeline, well, that problem multiplies itself.

On the other hand, there is one thing that I find quite easy, compared to other things - endings. I usually have a general image of what the ending should look like in my head, so it's more of finding the right way to achieve that goal than anything else.

Sometimes it's just getting started. There's the fear of the "blank page" - that the story sounds better in my head than on the screen. Also, lately, it's the fear that the story will never end - I'll just keep writing and writing and writing and saying nothing.

But once I get started, the words really do flow.
