1. Favorite flavor milkshake
Either chocolate or coffee, the latter with a bit of vanilla ice and some whipped cream on top (is perfect on a hot summer's day!)
2. Favorite soda pop
Anything with orange flavor, closely followed by drinks with lemon flavor
3. Favorite alcoholic drink
I hardly drink alcohol (mostly on New Year's Eve, where I have a glass of sparkling wine)
4. Favorite juice
Orange juice - best drink to start the day
5. Favorite brand of bottled water
I don't have a favorite brand (and I don't drink bottled water that often too)

Cheers!!

Fair warning ahead: the following answers are mainly about one band/artist only. On another note: the title of my entry is borrowed from the movie of the same name, which stars Julie Andrews and was mainly shot here in Austria.

( follow the sounds... )
1. What do you do to encourage yourself when going through hard times?
I try to stay positive, keep thinking positive thoughts, and listen to my favorite music. And recently I discovered that writing stories can have an encouraging effect too.
2. How do you motivate others?
By telling them over and over again how good we all feel when we reach the goal (whatever it is). I know it sounds like the legendary image of the donkey with the carrot dangling in front of him, but I've seen enough folks doing their best exact that way.
3. Who do you talk to for encouragement and inspiration?
As crazy as it might sound, but I talk to myself. My parents are dead, the only remaining "family" (= my godfather) has enough on their plate already, and I'm not that close to my neighbours. Sure, we talk, but more about things that go on in the house than our own problems.
4. What books have offered encouragement and inspiration?
Can't think of anyone right now. I'm more a classic literature type.
5. Which of your family members have encouraged you most over the years?
Definitely my mother. She was born right in the middle of World War II, and she had to raise me later on almost on her own when her husband (my father) had a horrible accident at work only three months after I was born. Next to that, she had to manage a move (it was in the same house, but couple that with a little baby and constant worry about your husband and it's anything else than a piece of cake). Practically my whole life, we had to make ends meet somehow, since my father didn't get the money he deserved when the company he was working for when the accident happened didn't go the correct ways of notification, and even after he went from doctor to doctor, we didn't get much more money. If I learned anything from my mother, then to make something from nothing. Even today, I try to buy only what I need and not the apparently cheaper big packs the supermarkets offer (Yeah, I sometimes buy them, but only things that I know will need anyway or will eat in the next time)

1) What's the first place you remember travelling?
Going with my school class to Burgenland for a week. We were on the shores of the Neusiedler See, and this was the first time I was so far away from home ever, not to mention the first time my mom and I were seperated after my father's death.
2) What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you while travelling?
can't think of anything specific right now, but there were definitely funny moments too
3) What's the worst thing that ever happened to you while travelling?
there are actually two incidents (thankfully none of them happened to me in person). The first one happened during a sportsweek with my school class in Carinthia. One of my fellow classmates got drunk and had to be taken to the hospital several towns over for an emergency treatment of alcohol poisoning.
Number two happened when my mom and I went to Paris some years later. We were there at the beginning of August, and it was incredibly hot. While we were in Versailles, we encountered a tourist group from Japan, and only looking at them gave us a heatstroke, since they all were dressed like we do in Winter, some of them even wearing a turtleneck when it had about 30°C and more that day. The group we were with took the tour through the garden, and almost at the end we heard sirens approaching the castle. When we met outside for our bus, one of the Japanese tourists told us that one of their group had collapsed and died, suffering a heart attack.
4) What's the furthest place from home you've ever travelled?
Paris, France. Been there twice already, but I wouldn't say no to going there for yet another round (who knows, maybe I happen to run into a certain con man XD).

5) Where is the next place you hope to travel?
As I said, I would like to revisit Paris. Other than that, maybe New York (or any other part of the US for that matter), and eventually London and Dubai/Abu Dhabi (if only for all the skyscrapers there)

Since I missed to answer two of the previous rounds, I thought I put them together with this week's questions in one nice package
10.07.2015 - BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
a) If you had to eat nothing but CEREAL for a week, what types would you eat?
In some of the shops in my area, they sell the cereals not just in the big boxes, but also in small ones that probably would last for two days max. With four boxes in one package, plus milk, and some cereal bars, I think I could last a week. But I wouldn't (and couldn't) stick to one type of cereal for a whole week.
b) Have you ever bought candy/cereal/snack JUST for the PRIZE inside?
Yep!! The Surprise Eggs, where there is a small toy hidden beneath a chocolate egg. I bought them, but didn't eat the chocolate (I was and still am very selective about chocolate - dark chocolate only). My mother used to use it for cookies and other bakery goods for Christmas year after year.
c) What is the earliest you have ever been drunk?
Is it bad or good to say that I have never ever been drunk in my life so far, no matter what time of the day??
d) Name one thing you have taken apart and could NOT put back together.
I can't exactly remember at the moment, but there definitely was one, at least. I was born curious, after all.
e) Three musketeers or three stooges?
The Three Musketeers (preferably the cast from the 1993 movie)

he definitely loves the shiny stuff...

26.06.2015 - STAR-GAZING
a) What is your fondest memory of something related to the stars or space?
I don't remember when it happened, but the first time I realized that there were certain patterns in what seemed to me a randomnly assembly of stars. That, and watching the various fireworks, bathing the night sky over my hometown in so many wonderful colors.
b) What is a celestial body that you find particularly interesting?
That would be the sun. I love it when she shines, but it always fascinates me how much damage she can cause (solar storms, radiation) even though she is so far away from us.
c) When you look at the night sky, what thoughts cross your mind?
What is really out there? Could it be possible that on some planet, no matter how close or how far he is from Earth, there is some kind of civilization? And how would they react if we earthlings suddenly show up there? (goes vice-versa as well)
d) Have you ever seen anything weird or inexplicable up there?
Nothing, except for some "moving blinking lights" (also known as airplanes flying by night; description was made by me when I was a kid)
e) Would you live in space or on another planet?
If the parameters for living are on a near-earth level - probably. But until then I'm okay here on Earth.

Space - the final frontier...

26.06.2015 - CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
a) What is something that you loved doing as a kid that you hate doing now?
I absolutely can't remember anything.
b) What is something that you hated doing as a kid that you love doing now?
As funny as it might sound - writing. I couldn't write a decent essay for the life of me when I was a kid. Then, one fine day, my mother set me down with a piece of paper and the image of a Christmas market, and told me to write a story - which was exactly three lines long. Then she told me to close my eyes and "live" the Christmas market - what do I smell, hear, feel, etc. And before I knew it, I had a full-fledged essay at my hands - and a new hobby (which is a gift that keeps on giving in real)
c) Do you still play (in the childhood sense of the word)?
That depends on the definition of playing. If you mean going to a playground and such, then no. But if you mean playing with cars and legos and dolls, then absolutely.
d) If not, what is stopping you?
For the playground - I'm too old and too grown up for most of the facilities there, plain and simple.
e) If so, what do you like to play?
Most of this happens when I visit friends who have kids. Then I'm having a racer duel or a tea party with quite an extended guest list (including teddybears and other stuffed animals), or we do some brainstorming over the latest puzzle the parents bought.

1. What is your favorite scent or odor?
that actually depends on the season. In Summer, the scent of freshly mown grass is an all-time favorite. In Winter, you can get me everywhere with a mix of vanilla, orange and lemon, maybe with a bit of cinnamon or gingerbread in it. But in general, the smell of sauteed onions with parsley takes me back to Saturday mornings and my mother preparing her famous and unreachable (in taste) dumplings with sausage leftovers and onion as filling.
2. What is your favorite taste?
Again, depends on the season and is strongly linked with scent. In Summer, next to chocolate, vanilla and lemon ice, a freshly prepared bowl of cucumber salad (or potato salad with my mother's receipe), and I'm a very happy camper. In Winter, give me anything with chocolate (especially around Christmas), and you'll get the same result.
3. What is your favorite sound?
Hearing the birds singing outside my apartment. I have the luck to live on the outskirts of my hometown (which is not always how I see it XD), and close to our apartment building is a small forest, and thanks to that, we get a very early concert. Waking up to that sound is, hands down, the best sound ever.
4. What is your favorite texture?
I actually don't have a favorite texture, though I like to touch soft surfaces. The soft fur of an animal (live or stuffed), the soft touch of any piece of clothing right out of the washing basket... I could go on and on, and the list would never end.
5. What is your favorite thing to look at?
happy, friendly faces

1) What’s the longest your hair has ever been?
just below my shoulder blades, had it cut on Wednesday
2) What’s the longest amount of hair you’ve cut off at once?
see above (I would say about 15-20 centimeters)
3) What length is your hair now?
about my chin, and now I have blonde streaks too (had blonde tips before)
4) What length of hair do you prefer most on yourself?
I think down to my shoulder blades is the best, even though I like it a bit shorter, since at that length it's not only a small fight washing them, but also I always run out of ideas of how to style them.
5) What length of hair do you prefer most on your partner/potential partners?
Depends on the partner. Some guys look absolutely fantastic with short hair, others with middle-length, and some are worship-worthy with long hair.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
A dolphin. Ever since I saw my very first picture of one, I love them. Not just for their playfulness and the sense of unlimited freedom they project. I read a lot about them, and their intelligence on so many levels, their group dynamic and last but not least their way of communication are also part of my interest in these wonderful animals, who are unfortunately a very endangered species by now.

If you could have any career that you wanted, what would it be?
It certainly would be somewhat linked to writing. Either a journalist/reporter, preferably for a magazine or newspaper focusing on Hollywood, or a press relations manager in a company. I have a history with writing that goes back to my elementary school days (long story that wouldn't fit in here).

What color do you think best describes you?
Blue, with green on a close place two. In color symbolism, blue stands for calming, relaxing. And while it can have a cold touch to it, blue also symbolizes an inner desire for distant places, as well as yearing (in general) and clarity. Next to looking into a clear blue sky or a pair of sky blue eyes (like Matt has), receiving a deep blue rose is one of my favorite associations with the color blue.

If you could move anywhere, where would you go?
New York. I fell in love with "the city that never sleeps" way back in my youth, when shows set in New York popped up (like "Friends" or "Without A Trace", "CSI NY" or "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"). With every show, my love for the city grew, but I was totally taken when I saw my first full episode of "White Collar". The city has become an unofficial cast member over the years, and next to watching Neal and Peter's shenanigans, the various shots of the city views is one of the things I enjoy the most on the show.

What would your ideal home be like?
Either a victorian house (like they had on Charmed - I totally wanted that house back then!), or, in tandem with the previous question, an apartment in New York, with a view of the city, preferably featuring my most favorite building in town, the Chrysler Building, prominently (couldn't find a good pic with the Chrysler, so the Empire State Building has to stand in).

1. What was your favorite childhood meal?
That would be either spaghetti with a meat sauce ("Bolognese") or pancakes (or better crêpes, since you use the thin ones for that), filled with a mix of meat, mushrooms, lots of herbs, a bit of onions, then rolled up like a wrap, and finished by putting it in a mix of wheat, eggs and breadcrumbs before frying it. Best dish ever!!
2. What is the best holiday for eating in your family?
Both my parents are already dead, so I have to go back in my memory for the answer. Either a birthday or, more traditionally, Christmas. For the latter, it would span the whole month before Christmas. My mom and I would bake cookies, my father would watch us, and we chat about anything and nothing at the same.
3. If someone could fix you a meal, and you didn't have to worry about cost or calorie count, what would you ask them to make?
Good question. I either would ask anyone to make me the dish I mentioned in answer #1 (too much effort for a single like me), or I would ask that person to make me their favorite meal. I'm a curious person by trade, and broadening my culinary horizons is just a part of my endless curiosity.
4. What food(s) do you truly dislike/hate/have allergies to?
Fortunately, I have no allergies *phew*, but you could get me running at Usain Bolt-speed with anything that contains things like worms, or locusts, or something like that. Let alone the thought makes me shudder. Another thing I so don't need on my menu is seafood. While I can easily eat fish, I get a bit queasy when it comes to scallops and their relatives.
5. Could you give up eating meat if you wanted/needed to?
Yeah, though not completely, I try to lower the weekly amount of red meat. And I admit it takes some time to get used to the taste, but once you got over it, the vegetarian alternatives are very delicious and better for your health.

1. What is your favorite poem? Can you recite part of it from memory?
mine is "Correspondances" by Charles Baudelaire. It was published as part of his "Fleur du mal" poetry collection, containing a total of 100 poems (in the first edition from 1851, later editions had more. I read it first in school, and even though I didn't understand it at first (or at least not completely), there's something about this poem that draws me in.
2. What is your favorite work of visual art? Can you sketch some of it from memory?
I got several favorite paintings, e.g. the several Water Lillies paintings by Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec's posters for the Moulin Rouge, Da Vinci's "Last Supper",... but my most favorite among them is "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. And no, I can't draw anything at all.

3. What is your favorite piece of music? Can you sing or hum any of it from memory? Bonus points if you can sing a line of harmony from it.
First of all, I have to say that most of my favorite music is from the two decades between the 1970's and the 1990's (to fans also known as the "Supernatural Soundtrack", since lots of the music used in the show originates from these periods of time). Listing them all here would kill LJ (and would never be complete), so I pick a song from that time that I love dearly - Bon Jovi, Livin' On A Prayer (1986):
In regards to classical music, the "Barcarole" from "The Tales Of Hoffmann" by Jacques Offenbach is my favorite piece and while it's not linked to a certain event or memory, it has accompanied me pretty much my whole life. Here is a video where it is sung by two of the best female opera voices today, Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca.
4. What is your favorite dance form? Can you dance it yourself, however badly, or is it something for which you are mostly a spectator?
Pretty much everything latin. Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Paso Doble, Rumba, Jive. And since I have a) two mean left feet and b) health issues in my left ankle, I leave dancing to the pros and watch with awe and rapture.
5. What is your favorite work of literature? Have you committed any of it to memory?
I started with a French author, and I end it with a French author. My favorite work of literature is "The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas. I read it for the first time back in the early 1990's, mainly for school, but after the first chapter or so, I was captured, both by the story itself and by the writing style of Dumas. Even though I read it several times since that, I can't remember a part of it.
